The name "Soma" comes from the novel by Aldous Huxley, "Brave New World". In this novel about a futuristic society Soma was an addictive drug which transported the user into a dream like state. The seven pieces represent all the ways in which three or four cubes can be joined in an irregular way. The pieces not only assemble into a cube in 240 different ways but also into many other interesting forms. Thorlief Bundgard's Soma site is well worth a visit.
